In case you didn’t know, we have a Presentation Tournament coming up on Saturday, July 18, 2015. In case you need it, here is the Facebook Event. As a brief synopsis, the Presentation Tournament is an opportunity for any and all of our students to demonstrate their material in front of an audience and then receive a trophy in front of their family.
The students sign up for a time slot at the desk. Each slot will be roughly five minutes (including the time needed to present the trophy). They may present any martial arts material they have learned or invented. The day is all about the students. It’s a chance for them get high fives and cheers for doing their martial arts moves and then a trophy on top of that. For many students this will be an additional incentive to practice their material and ask questions to understand how the material is supposed to work. There is no limit to how many students can sign up to present. We have the first hour of time slots available for sign up. If those fill up, we will add additional time slots. If we get five hours worth of students that want to present, then Master Alan will be here to officiate (sorry Master Alan, someone has to stay).
It’s a great opportunity to reinforce the Three Rules. Planning and practicing their presentation makes students work on Self Discipline. Learning to encourage each other as they practice and present helps reinforce Respect. Being able to focus their mind and calm any nerves before they present is great practice for Self Control.
Another awesome part of the Presentation Tournament will be demonstrations from the instructors. It’s a great opportunity for the students to see advanced material. Some of the instructors have announced their plans, but most of them are being kept secret until the day of.
